What do we do?

Islandopinion.com is the most effective way for Channel Island and Isle of Man residents to have their say on a range of island issues. Surveys will be posted here online, on a regular basis.

Both public and private sectors commission surveys on key issues facing their organisations. These surveys can range from your views on the current education system to a particular local shopping experience. Surveys will have a broad scope but will always relate to the local community as a whole.

All you have to do is register!

Who can sign up?

If you are permanently resident in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man and are 18 or over, then you can register to take part in Island Opinion. If you do then you will receive your own ID and can instantly log in, complete surveys and become eligible for inclusion in our annual prize draw.

Due to the technical nature of sampling and the profile range necessary to guarantee accurate surveys, there is a small possibility that, once registered, your details may be retained in a reserve participant category. But don’t worry! All reserve participants will be contacted via email as soon as a place on the active participant list becomes available.

How does it work?

At least one new survey is posted on islandopinion.com every month. An automatic e-mail is immediately sent, inviting you to complete the new survey(s). All you then have to do is visit islandopinion.com, log in and complete the survey(s). Once you have completed the survey, you are automatically eligible for inclusion in our annual prize draw and £1 will be donated to the local Association of Charities.

What have we learnt?

While many surveys are commissioned by public and private sector organisations, Island Opinion carries out regular surveys on island trends.

Here are some interesting examples of recent survey findings:

50% of leisure journeys to the UK by Jersey residents is to visit friends and relatives.
One in five leisure visits to the UK by Guernsey residents is to go shopping.
A greater percentage of Jersey residents walk to work than the percentage in Guernsey.
Over 60% of both Guernsey and Jersey residents consider it very important that there should be shared public services between the islands to save money.
20% of Jersey residents and 16% of Guernsey residents are of the view that climate change is still yet to be proven.
Watching TV is the most popular leisure pursuit in both islands.
27% of Jersey residents and 21% of Guernsey residents frequently access a product in a local shop and then buy the product on the internet.

Why would I want to participate in Island Opinion?

By completing all the surveys, you will be entered into an annual prize draw. Five prizes per island can be won. These will range from meals out at popular island restaurants, shopping vouchers and inter-island travel vouchers.

Focus Groups & E-feedback Groups

As an additional service provided by Island Analysis, we are now running regular focus groups on a whole range of topics, which will take place at various times throughout the year. We are looking for local residents to take part in these focus groups, if you would like to put your name forward, you will be added to our list of possible attendees.

Focus groups may be a one and a half hour discussion at a specific location or you may be asked to provide feedback on an online based project (up to one and a half hours of online time). Please note that for each focus group we usually ask for no more than 10 individuals and hope to vary this on a project basis so please do not expect to be included every time.

As a gesture of thanks for your time and input, Island Analysis will offer various incentives based on the type or subject of the focus group. (Usual incentives are in the region of £30 or its equivalent value).
